I would like to publicly thank Larry for his fantastic efforts with this already. Organizing members wishing to participate in sending postcards for Jake is above and beyond my original intent of asking individuals to send Jake a postcard. As well I can't thank those of you who have participated enough, you have helped make one little boy a very happy little boy ;)
Jake is a boy from Yorkshire in England who is less fortunate than most of us. Jake spends his time in a wheelchair and has difficulty communicating. He has a love of postcards, he enjoys them more than anything in this little world and saves them all. Cards don't arrive everyday of course, he has been used to getting just a few each as his own relatives go on vacation, usually within England. It was his mom who noticed what great joy they gave to Jake, he never puts them down and saves then all. Last year when my sister came to visit she sent him a few from out travels and told me all about Jake. After she left I bought a few and kept them in my car to mail 'now and then'. When I went to England earlier this year I spoke to his mom and asked if it was ok for me to include others who wanted to send postcards to Jake. I'm sure you know the answer to that one, she eagerly told me all about how much they mean to Jake.
Never discouraged on the days the postcards don't arrive, Jake waits with great anticipation for the next day. Here's what Jake's teachers have to say; "Jake has", and I quote "come on in leaps and bounds since the postcards started to arrive. He has an interest now and manages to talk not just about the postcards but about the pictures and where they have come from. We are looking up maps of the places and information about them, and Googling the pictures contents where it is not a place". Jake communicates, albeit very slowly and with the aid of a special ed teacher, via a computer, he is not able to speak himself. Word from his teachers is both astounding and motivating!
Larry wants to do this again, if not monthly! We need to know who is interested. Larry has it all set up to the point where it takes him seconds to do!
All you have to do is send Larry your original picture sized 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" at 300 dpi and a little message. Your message can be about the picture, about yourself or just your name.
Thanks for reading, Jane |

I'd love to continue to be a part of this wonderful activity...anything to make Jake happy, and to help him continue to "...come on in leaps and bounds..."

Life is about "Gives & Gets" You have heard this from me before. This is a GIVE! My motivation is that it makes me feel good to help an unfortunate child. My GET, is what Yorkshah describes above, and the effect this is having on Jake. |

Should we send them like last time to the Gallery or straight to Larry ? I have pix from all over the world and would love an outlet that does somebody some good ......when can we start? I'll get some ready and may be send Larry a batch? What a great idea. How old is Jake exactly?? That may help in the choosing process. Thanks for such a great idea. trish |
