I had a lot of comments to my night pictures, and they are really look good, I came a long way to make them, and had a lot of bumps on my head. 1, steady equipment is a requirement - the best is architectural parts - benches, concrete things, walls, cars etc, beans or (the best) sand bags are desirable, 2. low diafragmes, begining with f8, but better f11, for clarity, 3. Relatively low speed (asa200 or 400 in cameras like canon 20D and up. Use of filters (blue, green, polarizers) - is a fascinating thing, they really make a different. A revelation for me was a use of PS cooling filter on the night shots - it really adds a clarity, deep green PS filter after it make the picture more colorfull. Usually I shoot underexposeed *dark) pictures and pass it through shadows and highlights, and here ACDSee pro's instrument, by my opinion is the best, it beats PS and produced less grains, but use controls to avoid development od SIMS lines around the borders, and milky white SIMS zones, usually if you watch it in almost all the cases you can avoud it, and the last formation of additional B&W layer, make it high contrast and light and merge it with the existing originals - makes the last drop. My attempts to use HDR pictures - are not exactly promissing (but I used PS only) but sometimes it is very interesting - superstudy equipment is a must here. Hi there, thank you for sharing this and giving us all the benefit of your experiences.....I have a long way before I can even believe any of my shots can come anywhere near the standard of your magnificent captures, but now at least I feel informed enough to start to practise more confidently with night shots. Happy New Year to you and yours ! Take care..... | | January 1st, 2007 07:31 PM | | andreyG
