It was indeed a sad start for me when I looked at the reviews of the five photos I submitted.
More than half the reviews had no comments, and all of these were rated 8 and 9. Workshop? All of these received a 1 in return with a lot of comments as to why they were "not at all helpful"
Just to prove a point, for the 5 photos I submitted, I carefully chose them to be what I considered to be various degrees or levels of quality. If I were to have rated these myself, the maximum aggregate score the best one would get, would be 7.5. In this particular photo, which I liked, I intentionally left some minor editing defects in to see if they would be identified and commented on. One reviewer gave this photo all 9's and no comments, another all 9's and one 8, and no comments.
Since we are just getting started, I am asking you to put written comments on every photo reviewed. Let's see how this works, and if it doesn't, we will consider not accepting any reviews without comments, or automatically rating them as 1's. I am asking each of you to start doing the following beginning today:
Written meaningful comments on every photo.
For anyone who rates your photo and doesn't leave a comment, that you rate there review as a 1 regardless of the score and remind them why.
Let me pass on one more bit of information. I know who the "game players" were for the most part on TPW. Those same people are the ones that are seeing how many they can rate in a day and rating photos disproportionately high and are not leaving comments.
We have tried to create a meaningful WS environment. If this is what you want, please make it meaningful, by doing what is right, and making quality reviews with comments to substantiate the numerical ratings.
Thanks, Larry
