Has anybody seen the latest invention....the MONSTER POD? It's 'not 3 legged, is only 3 inches high, weighs about 5 oz. and is a lovely orange/black round plastic disk with a connector for your camera on top with a swivel (ball and socket joint) and underneath poly-somethingorother SUPER STICKY STUFF that temporarily sticks to almost any surface you plump it upon. It holds the camera tight while you do the photo work, allowing it to stick to walls, chairs, doorways, floors, steps etc. It feels like weird silly putty but sticks better than that, leaves no residue in most cases (and can be regathered by sticking the Monster back on those left over spots and they virtually leap back onto the disk base. I'll post a MONSTER picture if anybody is interested. It comes with a base case so as not to stick to your bag or pocket. I already can focus much better and highly recommend it. Trish
It cost about $40, my husband thinks, I'll check. |

I cannot tell you how disappointed I was when this arrived. I was under the impression that this was some new hi-tech material that is sticky but does not get dirty... It's just basically silly putty... Firmer, yes.... stronger, probably, easier to clean? Maybe... But it's basically just strong silly putty. Would you stick silly putty to a tree and expect it to come back off in any reasonable condition? No... Maybe I'm missing some magic here... I haven't actually stuck it to a tree yet, but I have stuck it to my wall and it already has lots of hair and stuff in it.
In short, this is not the miracle gecko-foot material or whatever... it's just basically silly putty. It may be useful, but don't expect much more than that.

I too went online and read just what Andrey quoted...it might get dirty on certain surfaces such as trees, but if you choose the place well...painted wood, cement, plastic and even rocks work. It DOES make me nervous leaving my camera dangling when stuck on a wall so I do hold it lightly but photos are much sharper now, the tripod really does all the work, it can't budge by my touching it. I accidentally stuck the goo on my knit pants...so I did just what they suggest: pat the base goo back on the blobs on my pants, It took about 6 tries to pick up all the orange spots and no residue was left..........so, for the price I haven't seen a downside yet except my pocket camera now does not fit into my pocket anymore! I'll post a photo soon. trish |

I am quite disorganised and forget a tripod im more occasions then not. Thus I am accustomed to use almost anything, I have a beany baby toy for steady shots - it is great. You can use salt (kosher salt in the plastic bab, covered by linen - it is very good addition, benches, walls, cars - are very good tripods. I usually have a vallet and 2-3 wooden blocks in the pockets - it is good to make an angle and keep the camera in portrait position. My wife is a tripod too, but do not like this name. Just hold your breath during the shot - make it more clear, If I have a surface - I can use it without additional things. I just can imagine all my loose coins paperclips and other junk on this thing for me to clear it up.... It will ended up in the nearest trashcan in 5 seconds, not my thing. If it has a cover - I will loose it in the first hour. Back to my beany dinosore. |
