I'm back home again. You know that cruise ship that ran aground in Alaska a couple of days ago? Yep, that was my cruise...(sigh). To say that the experience was a bit traumatic would be appropriate, but the good news is that nobody was hurt and people went out of theit way to make sure that all passengers were well taken care of, which totally reinforced my belief that despite personal differences, people will always rally to give aid and comfort to those in need. I did manage to take over 200 photos, and will be putting them through a second "weeding out" process before running them through PhotoShop. However, it will be a few days before I begin doing this. I need to give myself some time to process this experience, but I wanted to let you all know that I was okay. Judy | | | [1] | | | May 16th, 2007 05:21 PM | | LVE

Welcome back, and glad your are safe. I honestly thought about this, and told my wife that one of our members went to Alaska and hoped she wasn't on the cruise. My best! | | May 16th, 2007 06:40 PM | | pb

I can only hope that you got some winners among the 200 memories you will ever cherish -- how about whales? I was thinking that the news described your cruise exactly as you did so I was holding my breath it wasn't your dream trip. I've been on at least 15 cruises, one for 35 days last summer, and so far we've NEVER had any problems beyond rough seas. Don't give up on a good cruise line - the travel experiences via the sea are unforgettable. Glad you are safe and hope they gave each passenger free vouchers for future cruises. | | May 17th, 2007 12:23 PM | | andreyG

Gush, this is a lifetime experience, something that is never good to be in, but cherished to go through. Good to see you in one piece... | | May 18th, 2007 12:42 AM | | RhodyGirl

I want to thank you all for your thoughts of concern and encouragement. To those who asked if I would take another cruiseagain, the answer is a definite yes! I fully intend to go back to take an Alaskan cruise on the same boat next year, although, hopefully at a slightly later time of year. (It was COLD up there!) The cruise line has bent over backwards to compensate us for our troubles, and not only will we receive vouchers for a free cruise in the future, but we will receive full reimbursement for this cruise. I am bound and determined to get up to Glacier Bay, which was where we were hesded when the boat ran aground. I understand the wildlfe is rather plentiful there, not to mention, those glaciers. I've been going through my photos the last couple of days, and have found some interesting shots, including a few of a small avalanche on one of the mountains looming over Juneau. Alaska is such an interesting place... Thank you all again. Judy | | | [1] | | Login Now to post a reply (You will be brought back here to post your reply) |
