Question to all : If we like a photo as it is , surely we can review it as such - I have said what I liked about a photo and was reviewed replied with "...but you did not tell me what to change !"
My understanding here is we may suggest what can be done differently, but surely if we like it, that is OK too....
When photos need tweaking, by all means I will say so, but can I also simply say what I like about a photo and why - I cannot tell someone to alter their work just for the sake of it, epecially if it is great already !
I would like to know how to improve as well, but let's not get stuck in the mindset that dictates every photo should/ must be changed in order to be better.
Sometimes that little bit more can ruin the entire effect we are striving to achieve in our photography. Please everyone accept that some of your photos are really great as they are ! Take care .....

It seems to me that if we get a 6 or 7 on focus that we should realize that the focus on the photo could stand improvement . Same with Lighting! If I get a 6 on lighting I know that the lighting is not right. I agree, it's nice to have suggestions for improvement, and sometimes I will copy a photo into my Photopaint and try different things before I suggest changes. Also, to me, a photo with all 8s is nearly perfect, but just hasn't impacted the reviewer as being totally perfect. If I perceive a photo as being perfect in my eyes, I will give all 9s. Perfection is in the eyes of the beholder. Nina |

I do agree with that Mary Ann, and I think the word "good" in the 6 or 7 range means it could be better ie. Focus is good, but is a little soft on this or that part of the photo. Excellent, Great and outstanding, could be 8s and "perfect" should be a 9. Maybe as I become a better photographer myself, I will be able to look at a "good" photo and elaborate on what I think could be improved. I read reviews of my photos carefully in hopes of gaining more knowledge as to how to review others in a fair and intelligent manner. Nina |

Very well said, and thank you for your input. I guess my feeling was that if I know what makes a good photo in my own work, I can put that knowledge to work as a reviewer as well. Nina |

I love your suggestion, and I think starting at 9 and counting down will be how I'll grade a photo from now on. Thanks! Judy |

Thank you Jack for hearing what I was trying to say !!!!! If you have ever received a review from me you will know that I review in exactly the manner that you've stated.....if fact I may sometimes go overboard with how I declare what in the photo has impressed me as well as why. I think so many people here are so talented and I keep notes of why I like a particular style used in order to improve my own . Take care everyone..... |
